Carrie Prejean, you kinky gal, you!

Former Miss California Carrie Prejean has been struggling with handling the sex tape scandal, but now it’s a full-fledged debacle. It’s now been reported that seven other tapes have surfaced in which Prejean performs solo sexual acts along with 30 photos, all of which she allegedly took herself. Now, not only has she spoken out against gay marriage but has made herself look like a borderline sexually promiscuous young woman. When running for Miss California, we have to wonder, did she think about the risk involved in having these videos and photos floating around? Hey, you only live once, perhaps…

Earlier last week, Prejean had threatened to walk off the set half-way through her appearance on the talk show Larry King Live after King questioned her about the settlement she took for her lawsuit against the Miss California USA pageant when she accused them of slander, libel and above all religious discrimination. It was during this suit that her first sex tape had been discovered and reports were suggesting she backed off from the suit because of it.

Now that the lawsuit is over with, what else does she have to loose? She can at least reap the benefits of being famous — getting paid for interviews, being all over the news, magazines, internet (heh..) but what does she actually have to lose that she hasn’t already (i.e. her dignity)?

Whe she said it was the biggest mistake of her life, maybe she forgot all about Paris Hilton’s rise to movie stardom after her little brush with sex tape fate. However, it’s obvious that people disliking her due to her comments against gay marriage and her Miss America crown being taken away is leaving her feeling extremely vulnerable. Another interview is probably not what she wants at the moment..

Mike Tyson Faces Jail Time for Punching Paparazzi Reporter

Filed under: Celebrities — pop culture news @ 12:24 am

Says the Arizona Sheriff, who manages Tent City jail in Maricopa County,
“Mike Tyson has served time in the Tents before and if he is violated on the terms of his probation here in Arizona, he better get his jail time done while the weather in Phoenix is cool and not 140 degrees in the summer time.”

Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson assaulted a paparazzi photographer for which he was arrested at the Los Angeles’ LAX airport. The photographer approached Tyson who was accompanied by his wife and daughter and insisted for their photographs. When the photographer got aggressive and hit Tyson, he struck the man in order to defend his family, which was Tyson’s version given to the police. On the other hand, the photographer stated that when he approached the former boxer, he struck him in his face and he had to struggle to keep back the camera from being taken away.

Not-so-shocking news when Mike Tyson is involved, the scuffle took place in the Terminal 7 of the LAX airport of Los Angeles. Photographer Tony Echevarria was assaulted by Mike Tyson when he was approached for photographs. Tyson was arrested and released on a bond of $20,000. With differing versions to the story, the media have retorted back on Tyson who is famous for his outrageous public behavior. The photographer Tony had to be treated for a cut to his forehead. Mike’s spokeswoman defended the former boxer by saying that the act was in defense of his family from an overly aggressive paparazzo. While the photographer maintained that he was not aggressive or disrespectful, it is hard to point who the real victim is.

Michael Gerard “Mike” Tyson, a retired American boxer is the former heavyweight champion and still holds the record books for being the youngest man to win the WBC, WBA and IBF world heavyweight titles. He achieved the feat at just 20 years of age when he defeated Trevor Berbick. The ferocious and intimidating boxing style of Tyson was well known throughout his career. In addition to this, his controversial behavior both inside and outside the ring was of much concern.

It is not that Tyson has not been involved in a crime before this incident. During his growing up years in Brownsville, he lived in and around high crime neighborhoods. He himself had been arrested several times during his teenage for petty crimes and fighting. In the year 1991 he was convicted for the rape of Desiree Washington an 18 year old who was Miss Black Rhode Island. In the particular case his hostile behavior and his brutish and arrogant comments made the jury sentence him to 10 years of imprisonment. He again had a brush with the law enforcement agencies when he was arrested for drug possession in the year 2007 and he was convicted to 24 hours in jail, 360 hours of community service and 3 years probation.

The latest incident involving the paparazzi photographer again puts a question mark as to Tyson’s behavior in public. But here it is difficult to imagine who was at fault really. The photographer who pressed too much for photographs or a father and husband who defends his family against an overly aggressive media person? However, regardless of who was at fault, both men want to press charges for misdemeanor battery and the police are trying to arrest the photographer once he is out of the hospital.

Pirate Radio Literally Rocks

Filed under: Celebrities,Movie Reviews — Tags: , — pop culture news @ 12:42 pm November 14, 2009

“It’s ten o’clock at night. The dull dudes on the planet are sitting in their slippers and sipping their Sherries. But the people who love to rock and to roll are ready to ride the rocking rollercoaster once more.

“You are listening to Radio Rock, and I am The Count, and I’m counting you in as we count down to ecstasy and rock ALL DAY AND ALL OF THE NIGHT.” – The Count

In times tinted gray by a government’s disdain towards rock music, the Britain of the 1960’s seemed to be a place dull beyond imagination. People had only news and classical music as respite from their boring lives. The 2 hours of rock music were heavenly but short-lived. Yet from within the darkness, one ray of light shone through, captivating audiences all over Britain with 24-hours broadcasting of rock music every day, defying the protests of the British government. This is the premise of the film, Pirate Radio.

Seeing the title, the thing that immediately comes to mind is the assumption that rotten people are messing with one of our most essential means of communication. And yet the film isn’t about some mindless sabotage plan or some dastardly scheme to hypnotize the world through rock music. In fact, it is about something for the good of society, to bring rock to people who need uplift in spirits and to bring colour to a gray nation.

The film details the antics of a motley crew of rogue deejays and their efforts to keep broadcasting the rock music to the public whilst defying government minister Kenneth Branagh’s consistent efforts to shut down their station, Radio Rock. Quite a handful, but the cast of Pirate Radio manages to do all this with hilarious results.

The film begins by introducing us to Carl (Tom Sturridge), a boy sent by his mother to live with his godfather upon the ship which doubles as a radio broadcasting station. Then it moves on to introduce the rest of the cast, including Rhys Ifans as Gavin, “King of The Airwaves” and Phillip Seymour Hoffman as The Count, an egoistic American DJ and Jack Davenport as the strangely named civil servant named Twatt. The cast is too varied to be completely listed, but every single one played their part very well.

The reason for this may lie in the fact that the film’s director, Richard Curtis, sent them to “boat camp” before filming the movie. The actors were made to live and rehearse on the ship on which they would be performing. Cast and crew slept in small cabins and rehearsed throughout the day. In the evenings, they would eat, drink and play darts. During the camp, the actors really bonded and got the opportunity to meet ex-pirate DJ Johnnie Walker as well as Radio 2′s Chris Evans, to study various forms of broadcasting.

Philip Seymour Hoffman, who plays The Count, turned out to be a natural DJ. Due to scheduling commitments he started on the production several weeks after shooting began. This meant that he had only one hour to learn how to be a DJ. However, with his reputation of taking risks and constantly pushing himself to do better, he not only managed to play the part, but excelled at it.

However, the film garnered mixed reviews from different sources partly due to the broadness of the film, including some sexual references and coarse language. In fact, Pirate Radio is an attempt to salvage the failure or the first film, The Boat That Rocked. The changes included shortening of screen time among other things. Still, many sites have a positive take on this film. The strength of this film is definitely in the soundtrack, which includes many songs from the bygone era of the 1960’s from The Beatles, Rolling Stones and other bands you may have forgotten. The immortal spirit of rock is demonstrated clearly both in the soundtrack and in the film and it is a rewarding experience for any movie-goer in my opinion. In other words, IT ROCKS, literally!

Psychic Spy Program Behind the Movie “The Men Who Stare At Goats”

The new movie The Men Who Stare At Goats has made little buzz in the pop spectrum and it could be due to the strange nature of the material –Psychic Spies. George Clooney and Kevin Spacey star as soldiers who undergo research in the U.S. military into psychic warfare, a theme only briefly touched upon in the past by The General’s Daughter, starring John Travolta.

Below is a clip regarding the true story behind the movie.

Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance Video Delayed

Hundreds of thousands of fans were unimpressed with the delayed release of Lady Gaga’s new video for her Bad Romance, a new song from her upcoming album The Fame Monster.  Hype had been sufficiently induced for the viewing on her website slated for Monday November 9th, but when the day came nothing happened. Her website showcased twitter fans who had been staying up all night out of pure excitement and international fans who had already waited all day long yesterday only to be let down.

“Just when I was warming back to GaGa she does this.. :( “, says one forum poster on Gaga Forums.  “I can’t sleep tonight” says a twitter poster on Sunday night. The poor kids!

Guess there’s one thing we can count on from Gaga:  that we can’t count on her. :P

What is Californication All About?

One of the best shows on television this fall is Californication. It’s currently in its third season and has snagged an audience out from the trenches of bad television into the line of fire for good, dirty humor that even kids who stay up past their bedtimes can sneak a giggle at. On that point, the potty humor here is beyond anything you will have ever seen, even Family Guy since Californication is aired on a pay channel (Showtime). Yes, there is definitely no show that compares to this which has made me simultaneously laugh and barf quite a few times. And what am I referring to, those of you who’ve never seen the show? Oh let’s just say Hank Moody (David Duchovny’s character) barfing on a painting and then using the it to cover his nude self, letting the barf drool off the painting as he holds it vertically over his genitals in reaction to being caught smoking marijuana with a lady friend after sex.  And let’s not forget Charlie Runkle (Evan Handler) getting sprayed in the face from female ejaculation during a threesome with Hank (yes, they showed this). Both of these episodes happening in the first season, more shock value than entertainment I bet you’re thinking, but like other viewers I have to say, “No really, you have to see this episode.”

I don’t say it’s a great show because of the dirty jokes, though. It’s, surprisingly, the writing, the pacing and the delivery that really works. David Duchovny is truly on point throughout the whole show and you can tell, at times, that they’re all really having a great time filming it.  In fact, at times you could swear there is real drug usage going on (especially when Marcy and Charlie show up to a dinner party on Ecstacy) and the love between the characters is very believable, earthy, something you might actually expect from people living the Californian lifestyle.

The show derives its name from the general term for the lifestyles, fashion, and themes of California spreading throughout the U.S. and has been used as the title of a song and album by the Red Hot Chili Peppers (after they first battled with avant-garde rock group Mr. Bungle over the name California).  The protagonist, Hank Moody, is a New York writer in a mid-life crisis who manages to fuck away his worries at any chance he gets, and chances does he get!

Of course, between raising a teenager and attempting to get her mother back as his gal, he has to avoid getting caught in this awkward scenario or that losing scenario. Hank’s conceited, self-centered and at times misogynist attitude is alawys overshadowed by his charisma and knack for finding just the right words to turn a girl on, even if they’re dirty.

While the theme song is rather hokey and cliche, it’s fitting and the rest of the soundtrack tends to make up for it:  from Seattle sounds to old school Woodstock era favorites, you usually feel like you’re experiencing exactly what the characters are going through and exactly where they’re going through it.

A++

Steven Tyler May Leave Aerosmith

With the band’s 40th anniversary less than one year away, Steven Tyler may end up being replaced as legendary rock act Aerosmith’s front-man. Classic Rock magazine reports him as focusing on his solo career saying, “it’s definitely going to be something Steven Tyler, working on the brand of myself — Brand Tyler.” Brad Whitford, guitar of Aerosmith, says Tyler definitely leaves “big shoes to fill” commenting that it’d be difficult to mimic him: “But, if somebody was willing to do it and the chemistry was right, why not?” Lead guitarist and songwriter Joe Perry told the Las Vegas Sun, “Steven quit, as far as I can tell.”

Bassist Tom Hamilton told the Boston Herald that the troubles surrounding the legendary classic rock band didn’t necessarily mean they would break up. “We’re always full of troubles, trials and tribulations, but somewhere in the back of everyone’s mind is the knowledge that the only way to get something like the unbelievable experience we just had in Abu Dhabi is as this band.”

Forming circa 1970 and having released a wopping 14 albums, some of their most famous tunes include hits such as Walk This Way, Crying, Janie’s Got a Gun, Dude Looks Like a Lady and Living On The Edge. Steven Tyler, 61, had suffered a fall from stage during a concert in Abu Dhabi. It had put strain on the band and they were forced to nix the remaining part of the tour.
