Grunge God Soundgarden Frontman Chris Cornell Dies at 52

Easily one of the most recognizable voices in rock history has sadly passed away today.

Chris Cornell, the 52 year old grunge rock god that helped define a decade of rock music, died today in Detroit. According to his representative, Brian Bumbery, the death was “sudden and unexpected,” and that “the family will be working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause.”

According to the New York Times, a spokesman for the Detroit Police Department, Dontae Freeman, said officers had responded around 12 o’clock midnight at the MGM Grand casino to an apparent suicide of a white man, born July 20, 1964, pronounced DOA (dead on arrival).

“Mr. Freeman said that the victim’s wife had called a family friend to check on the man; the family friend forced his way into the man’s room at the casino and found him unresponsive on the bathroom floor.”

Police said the victim was found with a band of some sort tied around his neck. While it’s currently being dubbed an “apparent suicide” by the police, the details are still developing and it’s unclear whether or not Cornell suffered from suicidal depression or if this could have been an accident.

CDs and vinyl records of Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog are beginning to sell out on all the major retailers as fans scurry to find 1st editions and rare singles of arguably one of the most phenomenal singers of all time.

RIP Chris Cornell :'(
