Midsommar (2019)

This is a movie that sets a dark tone right away, yet combines it with bright and beautiful scenery throughout, even to the bitter end (which is indeed quite bitter). What makes the movie great is more than just one thing, it’s the whole package — editing, storyline, acting, and direction. The craziest sidenote is that there are two different versions of the movie, but both are just as enthralling… and just as disturbing.

A young female college student experiences a family tragedy that sets her off on a path towards fulfillment that neither her boyfriend nor his friends can muster on their own. Luckily, a friend of his entices the group to embark on a journey to meet his “family”, a commune that resides in the forests of Sweden, and what unfolds is probably one of the hardest movies you’ve ever sat through, but we guarantee you won’t want to look away.
